Bio

Mike Brown was born in Yorkshire, England in 1960 but moved with his family to the West Cork village of Courtmacsherry in 1974 where he has spent most of his life since. Having been keen on natural history from a very early age, living in rural Ireland enhanced and encouraged that interest.
He only began taking photographs in his late twenties and with no formal training he became a full-time photographer in 1992. Since then he has covered many aspects of professional photography and still undertakes a number of commercial assignments.
At the end of 1999 he decided to combine his love of nature and landscape with his passion for photography. The images on this website are the result of this work. In Ireland we are lucky to have many places where we can see wildlife and unspoilt landscapes quite easily. However, we often look without seeing the true beauty of our subject. When photographing the landscapes and natural history of Ireland, Mike tries to capture this beauty and individuality in all its glory.
Mike has undergone the change from film based photography to digital capture and although many of the images on the website were originated on film, Mike now shoots exclusively on Canon EOS 1 series digital cameras.
Since producing his first book "Ireland's Wildlife-A Photographic Essay" in 2002 Mike has been busy with various projects including working as photographic consultant to the celebrity contestants on RTE televisions' "Wild Trials" programme. He has also opened a Gallery of his own in the beautiful and popular West Cork town of Clonakilty. It is from this base that Mike does his work and the landscapes of the local area provide much of his subject matter and inspiration.
All Mike's prints are digitally printed but are produced on photographic paper rather than from inkjets printers. Larger sizes than are shown on the website are available to special order and signed, framed prints can be purchased also - please contact us for further details.
